My fiance and I are planning on getting married in Bermuda next year. I read somewhere that our marriage wouldn't be legal in NY (where we live). Is this true? I have been so bummed since reading it I hope its not. Thanks for the help.

Yes as long as the couple met all of the legal requirements in Bermuda. It is called comity.
