I am a 17 year old American citizen. My parents are not legal residents of the state or the country but have lived here 18 years.
Will this affect my financial aid eligibility? I'm asking because I applied to a California State University and they put me under my parents' legal status because I was under the age of 19. Does the FAFSA do this too?
I don’t think you can. Since you are a dependent, the FAFSA needs your parental information. This includes a social security number because your parent will have to electronically sign the FAFSA. If they do not have a legal and valid SS#, they can’t sign that application.
I suggest you research this some more, and speak to an expert.
